There are so many animals in the world that need help. Did you ever wonder how you can help animals in need? There are actually many ways every person can work towards making the world a better place for our animal friends. Here are just a few of those ways:

  1. Be on the look out if there is an animal in distress in your neighborhood. You may notice a animal caught in traffic or an animal that is lost or is in need of some assistance. Always remember to stay out of traffic if you find a furry friend stuck in the street. Call your animal control officer or even call the police if necessary.
  2. If you find a lost animal be careful how you approach him/her. I myself have found at least 3 different cats roaming around where I live that were obviously in need of human help. They may be starving or injured or dehydrated or just lost. If you have a vet to take them too, that is the best way to help them. If that is not possible, try to find someone who knows about animals to assist you.
  3. There is a lot of wildlife out there that you may come across that may need help as well. If you find an animal that is not a pet and fits into the wildlife category, be sure to help these little guys also. Always be careful when you approach it.  Do not feed it or give it water. Immediately take it to a wildlife facility that is nearest to you. If this is not possible…try to find a wildlife hotline number to call that can assist you over the phone.
  4. If it is a bird, keep it in a dark quiet place, and place a heating pad that is on low heat underneath a towel in a box if the bird is not warm. The bird needs to stay calm so no loud noise and keep the lights off. Then, keep on trying to get it to a wildlife facility. The reason why it is important not to give water or food to the animal, is that he/she may have internal injuries and not be able to digest anything orally. If the bird is obviously near death and is dehydrated, then you may chance giving it water, your choice, (my opinion). But the less activity the bird has, the better. It can get stressed very easily and die suddenly. Some people have friends that have worked around wildlife and know the procedures and know how to examine a bird for injuries. This can be an option, but, the best thing for the bird is to get an exam by someone who definitely knows what they are doing, such as a wildlife facility. This information is only my opinion and should not be followed if a doctor or specialist gives you different advice. The main thing is to do your best. keep the animal and yourself safe and always do what you can to help any animal in need. The rewards are amazing. They most likely will not be monetary, but you will certainly feel great…and you will be a hero to an animal needed  help.
