CAT COLLARS:

By: Jill K. Widmann

It is important to always outfit your cat with a breakaway collar and a visible ID that has your telephone number on it. No matter how careful one is, there is always a chance that your kitty may slip out the door. Your cat is actually more likely to get home safely if they have a collar and ID on.

Also, you can be a good citizen by complying with any local cat licensing laws. Even if your cat has a chip, it is good to have a collar on him/her so that if he is found, someone can immediately contact you if they don’t take him to a vet to read the chip. if the collar is lost, then the chip will then give the information if the kitty is taken to a vet. This will be the first thing a vet checks for.  Breakaway collars are the safest kind and it is always wise to use these as opposed to other options. Ideally, both a chip and a breakaway collar are a great duo for your kitty to have.
